KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Some of northern Kansas City’s most vulnerable residents have a closer option for finding meaningful work and striving to live independently. 

Firefly moves into a new office space at 1333 Northwest Vivion Road, bringing offices from Gladstone and Liberty inward and into Kansas City. Firefly will house supported living and employment assistance services to persons with disabilities from the new Vivion Road office beginning March 1. 

“It’s a very wide range of folks we serve — anybody with a qualifying disability,” Firefly Vice President of Supported Living and Employment Services Daniel Mayes said. “It can be mental health, substance use, physical impairment, an intellectual or developmental disability, blindness or hearing impairment or autism.” 

The move puts Firefly’s offices closer to two Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Vocational Rehabilitation offices, which are top referrers to the employment services program. Mayes says the 12 full-time staff members who will primarily work from the Vivion Road site are focused on helping clients from the north Kansas City metro area and downtown. 

“We’re really bringing another employment services option to residents in north Kansas City,” Mayes said. “This puts us more in the heart of the territory where the people we serve live.” 

Initially, the move impacts about 40 employment services clients who meet with Firefly team members in person. The move gives the Firefly team more capacity to help more people find meaningful and dignified employment. 

Firefly’s supported living team members mostly work remotely in the homes of the clients they serve. Supported living services are tailored to meet the individual client’s needs, and can include physical health development, language development, social skills training, independent living skills, assistance with maintaining employment and assistance with leisure activities.
